Blue Lagoon

This particular cocktail, while not only tasty, is actually quite a good thirst quencher, too.  It's perfect for a hot summer day out by the pool.
Or lake.
Or beach.
Or lagoon…

Not that one.

Oh, and May 31 is also the birthday of Brooke Shields.

Yes, please.  THAT Lagoon.

Red, White & Blue (shot)

Friday Cocktail List™...Memorial Day Edition

Everyone enjoys a day off of work to spend time with family, friends, or both.  But on Monday, try to remember WHY we’re all able to get together on that day and have the freedom to do practically anything we want to do.  Memorial Day is a day of remembrance of those who have died serving our country.

That said, there is certainly nothing wrong with CELEBRATING said freedoms!

Red, White & Blue Shooter

1/2  oz        Grenadine
1/2  oz        Peach Schnapps
1/2  oz        Blue Curacao

In the tallest shot glass you have, layer the ingredients in the order listed
If you want it to look right (i.e. like the flag), then you MUST go in the order listed.  It also helps to chill the Peach Schnapps first.  The Grenadine is heavier regardless, but the 2 liqueurs will stay separated better if they are different temperatures.

Have a safe long weekend.  Please don’t drink & drive.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

FIRE & ICE (shot)

FIRE & ICE

Two bold sensations that have worked great together my entire life.

From cheesy animated fantasy films from my childhood:

To equally-cheesy hair-metal in my teens:

Through this week’s nifty little shot that was a favorite of my college buddies in our 20’s:

To what I often need now:

Here’s how you make this shooter of beauty:
1/2  oz        Goldschlager
1/2  oz        Rumpleminze

Keep the two liqueurs in the freezer prior to making this.  Pour ½ & ½ into a shot glass.  WAIT!  Don’t kick it back yet!  There is a proper way to breathe AFTER you take this shot.

OK, take your shot.
Now inhale sharply with your lips pursed.  You’ll feel the fire
Exhale deeply with you mouth open wide.  That’ll give you the ice.

If I can stress anything about this shot, it’s the breathing.  It really works.

DON’T FORGET.  VERY IMPORTANT TO BREATHE!

Mimosa

This weekend, don’t forget Mom on Sunday.
Hallmark and FTD are counting on your support. *

Should you decide to do the “Breakfast in Bed” bit, this drink is perfect. It’s light, crisp, and goes GREAT with bacon. **

1 part    Champagne
1 part    Orange Juice
Combine both in a champagne flute.
Since the champagne is being mixed with a fruit juice, there’s no need to go with an expensive bottle.  It would be kind of a waste.  The image shows pulp-free orange juice but to pulp or not to pulp is really more of a preference thing.  You know your mom better than I do...probably.

*   The founder of Mother’s Day in the U.S., Anna Jarvis, was so angry about what she saw as businesses exploiting the holiday that she was once arrested for disturbing the peace while protesting its commercialization.

**  EVERYTHING goes great with bacon

The Money Maker

Pictured above:  Money Maker

This weekend’s events include the Kentucky Derby, Star Wars Day, and Cinco de Mayo.
The traditional Mint Julep for the horse race would be too obvious.
I’ve already done a Full Nerd Assault on you guys with the Death Star Cocktail.
And margaritas would fall under the “too easy” category to celebrate the Battle of Puebla.
Instead, let’s celebrate the joys of pseudo-capitalism as the Dow-Jones hit 15000 for the first time ever today.

What does that mean for you?
Probably nothing.
But for THESE guys...

…there’s just nothing better.  Except maybe outrageously expensive wines, Apple products, bicycles, restaurants no one has ever heard of, recycling, Indie rock, and adopting children from third-world countries.

1.5 oz   Vodka
½ oz     Melon Liqueur
½ oz     Lemon Juice

2 oz      Pear Nectar

Fill martini shaker ½ with ice
Add the liquids
Shake vigorously
Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice

“I approve of this cocktail.”
